The Importance of Flowers

The Importance of flowers in nature is EVERYWHERE; they feed insects, birds, animals and humans. Flowers have provided medicine for humans for centuries and continue to do so today. They also aid in a plants reproduction by enticing outside pollinators. I know that my plum tree thanks my cherry tree every year with a mountain of plums and vice versa.

Flowers also convey meaning and that is why people buy flowers, they are saying to the other person, I value you and I am thinking of you.  But did you know that flowers are scientifically proven to be a stress release? WHAT??? Scientific you say… let me explain.

Research from the University of North Florida shows that something as simple as flowers can help reduce stress and create a sense of calm in your life. Since 68% of people live with stress on a weekly basis, this is a significant finding. These findings show that people who lived with flowers in their homes for just a few days reported a significant decrease in their levels of stress and they also improved their moods.

So, go out there and bring some of the elements of nature into your home! See how you feel with the addition of fresh flowers around you. I assure you; it will feel fantastic!

Tips for less Stress using flowers:

  • Have flowers in your bedroom so when you wake up, it is one of the first things you see
  • If you are looking to boost happiness, look for the colour Orange. It promotes optimism, enthusiasm and a sense of uplift. Flowers like Gerbera, roses, lilies, alstromeria, tulips will do the trick. Just put them in your kitchen or on your desk and start feeling that happy feeling!
  • If you are having a bad day and nothing is going right try soothing colours like blues, lavenders, and soft greens. The perfect place is in your bathroom or your bedroom. Flowers like hydrangea, dahlias, freesia or roses are a good place to start.
